Art Shed

Our Art Shed is the home to our permanent collection of large scale enamel paintings and sculptures by Stefan Knapp, and sculptures by John Paddison. Two artists renowned and respected as innovators in their day. Situated in a large converted sheep shed, the hall is our largest space and houses regularly changing large scale installations by sculptors from Wales and beyond. We also use the hall to present our events programmefeaturing live music from local talented musicians and readings by the best of Wales’ poets and creative writers. In 2021 the Art Shed was renovated, supported in part by a grant from the Arts Council of Wales. Following the renovation, we now have ground source heating installed allowing the Art Shed to be used year-round as a gallery and event space. fred now

Art Studio

Our Art Studio is the home of our vibrant programme of workshops and arts classes for all ages and skill levels. Mid Wales Arts has been running pottery and sculpture clubs for 10 years. Some wonderful individual and group work regularly comes out of the kilns and students have gone on to win competitions and study sculpture at University. We now have an electric and a separate wood-burning kiln and 2 electric wheels. Other regular classes include our hugely popular lino-cut printing workshops with Jeb Loy Nichols and, Sculpteen, our yearly summer sculpture programme for teenagers. Our new Artist in Residence programme for has brought a renewed excitement to our workshop programme with our resident artists leading workshops, sharing their ideas, inspirations and working methods.

Sculpture Trail

Situated in the center of our buildings is our beautiful Sculpture Garden. Enjoy walking in beautiful scenery and discovering over 100 extraordinary and varied pieces of original sculpture from Wales and Zimbabwe. The national organisation of sculptors in Wales, Sculpture Cymru, opened an exciting test space and sculpture trail in 2015. Alison Lochhead of Sculpture Cymru and the former Gas Gallery said it was the beginning of an exciting period for Sculpture Cymru who have wanted a home where they could have a permanent exhibition space to exhibit, and exchange ideas. The park extends to 18 acres and visitors are free to enjoy walking around it and using it as inspirational source material. The well-established private gardens are full of spectacular plants and our own home grown fruit and vegetables.

Yet another visit to this wonderful creative & stimulating space. Great to see it developing with young people creating alongside Knapp’s inspiration! Diolch
